WHAT IS GRAVITY SEPARATION?

Gravity separation is a mineral processing technique that exploits differences in the specific gravity (density) of minerals to separate valuable ores from gangue (waste material). It relies on the principle that denser particles settle faster or move differently under the influence of gravity, often combined with fluid dynamics, vibration, or centrifugal forces.

In the context of extracting minerals using a shaker table (also known as a shaking table or Wilfley table), the process works like this:

  • Setup and Operation: The shaker table is a flat, riffled deck tilted at a slight angle and mounted on a mechanism that imparts a rapid, reciprocating motion (shaking) along its length. A slurry of crushed ore mixed with water is fed onto the table from one end.
  • Separation Mechanism: As the table shakes asymmetrically (faster in one direction than the other), heavier minerals with higher density are influenced more by gravity and inertia, causing them to migrate toward the riffles and down the table’s slope. Lighter particles are carried away by the flowing water film across the table. The riffles help trap and channel the denser concentrates.
  • Key Factors: Effective separation depends on variables like particle size (typically 0.075–2 mm for optimal results), feed rate, water flow, table tilt, stroke length, and frequency. It’s commonly used for minerals like gold, tin, tungsten, and rare earth elements, offering a low-cost, environmentally friendly alternative to chemical methods.

This method is efficient for fine-grained materials and can achieve high recovery rates when tuned properly, but it may require multiple passes or integration with other techniques for complex ores.

HOW DOES THE TREMIFLO SHAKER TABLE WORK?

Step 1) Feeding material onto the TremiFlo

Feed material must be wet before being introduced to the TremiFlo Shaker Table. The saturated feed material is fed manually using a spade. Each spade is fed into a 3mm sieve located on the highest point of the deck directly under the water manifold.

Step 2) Washing of material

The feed material will move/wash downward over the stage 1 riffles of the specialised mining mat. Stage 1 riffle allows for an aggressive washing process where your mineral will sink into a riffle whilst the unwanted waste simply washes over and downward into the tailings gutter. The most crucial factors of this process are your feed rate, deck angle and water flow from your independently valved water manifold.

Stage 2 riffles are shorter allowing for a secondary wash to take place. Nozzles are strategically placed down the length of the deck each housing their very own valves to control water flow in the middle to final path of your minerals catchment process.

CONTACT US

The TremiFlo shaker table is capable of processing and extracting Gold, Platinum, Iron, and other heavies.

A shaker table is a piece of mining equipment that uses gravity to separate heavy minerals from lighter materials. It works by vibrating the table, causing the minerals to move along the table's surface, while the lighter materials are washed away. The heavy minerals are then concentrated at the end of the table, where they can be collected and further processed.

No, additional plumbing installation is not required for the TremiFlo table.

The TremiFlo table can process up to 750kg/hour.

The TremiFlo table runs on single phase/220V electrical power.

Yes, KFP Projects provides exceptional customer service and will assist with setting up the table at the desired location if requested. They will also answer any questions or concerns throughout the mining process.
